Neera Tanden

Neera Tanden (born September 10, 1970) is an American political consultant and lawyer. She is president of the Center for American Progress since 2003. During the Barack Obama presidency, Tanden helped create the Affordable Care Act. In May 2021, she became a Senior Advisor to President Joe Biden.

On November 29, 2020, then President-elect Joe Biden announced that he would nominate Tanden as the next director of the Office of Management and Budget.[1][2] However, after Democrats and Republicans criticized her nomination, she withdrew her nomination as OMB director on March 3, 2021.[3] Two months later, she became senior advisor to Biden. She was named White House staff secretary in October 2021.
