Tenri, Nara

Tenri (天理市, Tenri-shi) is a Japanese city in Nara Prefecture on the island of Honshū.[1]

History

The Isonokami Shrine is in Tenri. A town grew up around the shrine.[2]

According to tradition, Tenri was the site of the Hirotaka Palace (Hirotak no miya) when Emperor Ninken lived there.[3]

Tenri is the center of the Tenrikyo sect.[1]
