Andrei Markov (ice hockey)
Andrei Viktorovich Markov (born December 20, 1978) is a former Russian-Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He played for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League (NHL) and serves as their alternate captain.

Career
He was drafted with the 162nd overall pick by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Before playing in the NHL, he played 4 seasons in the Russian Superleague with Khimik Voskresensk for 2 seasons and Dynamo Moscow for 2 seasons.
He made his NHL debut with the Canadiens during 2000-01 NHL season. He split his time between both the Canadiens and their AHL affiliate Quebec Citadelles. He earned a permanent spot on the Canadiens roster during the 2001-02 NHL season. He went back to Russia during the 2004-05 NHL lockout to play for his former team Dynamo Moscow.[1]
He came back to North America after the lockout and signed a four-year deal with the Canadiens on May 28, 2007.[2]
He became a Canadian citizen on July 16, 2010.[3]
He signed a three-year deal with the Canadiens on June 23, 2011.[4]
On September 15, 2014, the Canadiens named Markov as one of their alternate captains along with P.K. Subban, Tomas Plekanec, and Max Pacioretty.[5]
