William McKinley, the 25th President of the United States, was shot on September 6, 1901, inside the Temple of Music on the grounds of the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York and he died eight days later from a gangrene wound.

Shooting and death

On September 6, 1901, McKinley was shaking hands with the people when he was shot by the anarchist Leon Czolgosz. He died eight days later from his gunshot wounds. He was 58 years old. It was later known that Czolgosz killed the President in an attempt to advance anarchism.

Czolgosz was executed by the electric chair on October 29, 1901. The vice president, Theodore Roosevelt, became America's 26th president of the United States of America.
