Central Ontario
Central Ontario is a subregion of Southern Ontario in the Canadian province of Ontario.[1] It is between Georgian Bay and the eastern end of Lake Ontario. It covers 39,814 square kilometres (15,372 sq mi). It has a population of 1,070,644 according to the Canada 2011 Census. Much of the subregion is rural. The southern part is more densely populated than the northern part. Some of the largest cities include Peterborough, Barrie, and Belleville.

Counties
There are five counties in the subregion:
- Dufferin County
- Haliburton County
- Hastings County
- Northumberland County
- Peterborough County
- Simcoe County
- Prince Edward County is a single-tier municipality. Ten towns, villages and townships merged with the county.[2] The county government provides all services.
