Ikeja

Ikeja is a town and local government area of Lagos State, Nigeria. It serves as the capital of Lagos State.[2] Ikeja is known for being a well-planned commercial settlement with shopping malls, pharmacies and government reservation areas.

Etymology

Oral history has it that the word Ikeja was first coined from the Benin word Ikehdia (English: military watch station).

It is also believed that the first colonial administrators in Lagos abbreviated Ikorodu and Epe Joint Administration to Ikeja for easy administration.
