Osman I
Osman Gazi, or Osman I, was a Turkoman tribal leader and the first Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.

Osman was born in 1258 in Söğüt, northwestern Anatolia (today Turkey) and died on August 1st 1326 in Bursa. He managed to successfully unite the Turkoman Anatolian tribes and lead conquests of Byzantine territories. By the time of his death, he had finished conquering the northwestern part of Anatolia from the Byzantine Empire. His conquests of Christian Byzantine lands gave him the title of Gazi therefore he is known as Gazi Osman Bey or Osman Gazi.
