The Revenant (2015 movie)

The Revenant is a 2015 American semi-biographical western movie set in 1823 Montana and South Dakota. [1] It was inspired by the experiences of frontiersman and fur trapper Hugh Glass.[2]

It was directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu.[3] It was written by Mark L. Smith and Iñárritu. It is based in part on Michael Punke's The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hardy, Will Poulter, and Domhnall Gleeson.[4]

The Revenant premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on December 16, 2015 and had a limited release on December 25, 2015, followed by a wide release on January 8, 2016.[5] It got really positive reviews. It won three Golden Globe Awards and five BAFTA Awards, including Best Film at both shows. At the 88th Academy Awards, the movie received 12 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor (Hardy), winning Best Director (Iñárritu), Best Actor (DiCaprio), and Best Cinematography (Emmanuel Lubezki).
