The original panel consisted of Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Cheryl Cole and L.A. Reid. Cheryl was later fired and was replaced by Nicole Scherzinger who was going to be the host along with Steve Jones. At the end of season 1, Paula, Nicole and Steve were all fired but Nicole would become a judge on the UK version.

Demi Lovato and Britney Spears replaced Paula and Nicole as judges while Khloe Kardashian and Mario Lopez became the co-hosts replacing Steve. In 2013, L.A. and Britney left the show and were replaced by Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio. Mario became the sole host after Khloe was sacked.

On February 7, 2014, Fox announced that The X Factor got cancelled due to Simon Cowell, who is going to judge back at the UK version of the show.
