El Pueblo Marinero

Costa Teguise is a city of 8,300 people (2018) on the eastern side of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. It is close to Arrecife, the capital, and 10 to 15 minutes by car from the airport. It offers all types of accommodations and activities. Costa Teguise is one of the most attractive tourist areas on Lanzarote thanks to its array of lodgings, beaches, services and the tranquillity. This is definitely one of the preferred destinations for families visiting the island.

Get in

By plane

From the airport by bus you need to change in Arrecife. Google Maps and Moovit help to find the right connection.

By bus

Bus is easy to get from Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen and runs all night (€2.60 to Carmen). The buses have multiple stops in the town. The final bus stop in town is called 🌍 Hotel Salinas Ida.

Get around

On foot

The centre of the village is on the bay of Playa de las Cucharas. It's a bit spread out, but relatively flat and can therefore be explored on foot.

By electric kick scooters

Costa Teguise, Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen and Playa Honda are covered by one connected e-scooter sharing system. The service is provided by Superpedestrian Link Scooters and can be used with the according app. You can take and leave one e-scooter anywhere. Excluded are only some areas directly at the coast of Costa Teguise. One ride costs €1 to unlock and €0.30 per minute (Feb 2023).

By bus

Several bus lines operate in town along the coast.

By car rental

You can hire a car for €50 for a three-day period and drive around the island to see the interesting landscapes and sights.

See

La Mareta
  • The La Mareta palace at the western entrance to the town. It was designed around 1980 by César Manrique for the Jordanian King Hussein and blends inconspicuously into the natural surroundings. A fence and a helipad are less noticeable than the apartment houses built next to it.
  • Lanzarote Aquarium, Avda. Las Acacias s / n (Centro Comercial El Treból), +34 928 590 069. Daily 10:00-18:00. Single ticket €11, family (2 adults, 2 children) £42.

Do

Playa del Jablillo in Costa Teguise
  • Scuba diving from Costa Teguise is some of the best in Europe.
  • Stroll on the promenade. Much of the coast is very rocky, and the sharp-edged lava cliffs make swimming almost impossible. But the path is ideal for long hikes.
  • Playa de las Cucharas. Well suited for windsurfing.
  • Playa Bastián and Playa del Jablillo. Family-friendly beaches.
  • Aquatic park
  • Costa Teguise Golf, Avda. Golf s / n, +34 928 592 337, . Green fees €73 low season, €90 high season, 50% discount for juniors.

Buy

Eat

There is shepherd's pie and scampi and chips in the myriad British-style pubs, but you'll find nicer places are around the old square with huge steaks and (fairly pricey) tapas.

Nice tapas place on the main road which curves around the outside of the resort.

Splurge

Drink

The Chill Out Bar on the first floor along from Dreams is about the only decent bar in the town. More South East Asian in feel than Spanish, but pretty cool and cheap beers.

Everywhere else in Costa Teguise is like something out of Phoenix Nights, i.e. stuck in 1982. Wall-to-wall karaoke and pop tribute acts. Places with the names "The Red Lion" and "The Black Bull" abound, with most showing Coronation Street and Emmerdale (Britush soap operas).

Cayote Disco Pub is about the only place that could reasonably be described as a nightclub (or disco, "nightclub" seems to be widely understood as a brothel in Spain - which would be more interesting, frankly), but it's still pretty ropey.

Sleep

There are a number of large 4-5 star hotels.

  • Apartments Celeste, Avda. Islas Canarias, 21-23-25, Costa Teguise, +34 928 591 720. The Hotel Celeste features 85 fully equipped apartments with one and two bedrooms. Located in the heart of Costa Teguise, Lanzarote’s premier holiday resort, the complex is divided into three blocks, each with its own swimming pool and sunbathing area.
  • Coronas Playa, Avda del Mar 26, +34 928 82 66 40. The Hotel Coronas Playa is in a prime seafront location, the nearby beach Playa Bastian and the local shops and bars are only a short distance away.
