Borrowed from Ottoman Turkish اراده‎ (irade), from Arabic إِرَادَة‎ (ʔirāda). The gender probably learnedly feminine from Arabic or neuter by the word’s South Slavic interpretation and masculine by alignment to German Erlass or Befehl.
