Etymology
Two possible etymologies:
- Demiraj derives it from Proto-Albanian *auK-(ul-), from Proto-Indo-European *Houk- (“cold, frost”). Cognate to Armenian ոյծ (oyc, “cold, frost”).[1]
- Orel considers it to be a loanword from East Germanic, from Proto-Germanic *jekulaz[2].
