From Arabic ضِرْس‎ (ḍirs), though properly perhaps a backformation from the plural, as also in nejba (“canine”). Compare Tunisian Arabic زرسة‎ (zarsa), Moroccan Arabic ضرسة‎ (ḍarsa).
