Etymology

Either from a South Slavic prazŭ or Bulgarian праз (praz) (from Proto-Slavic *prazъ), itself from Greek, or possibly directly from late Byzantine Greek πράσον (práson) (compare Bulgarian праз (praz), also Aromanian prash); compare also phonetic development of s > z in ovăz). Less likely from a Vulgar Latin root *prasum, from ultimately the same Ancient Greek root.
