Using water based finishes to create a unique sponge effect on your furniture is simple and fun! Make your furniture stand out from the crowd.
Steps

1Read the instruction literature available on the sides of the paint and stain cans and in the brochures provided by your furniture retailer.

2Choose a well-ventilated area where the temperature is above 65 degrees.Advertisement

3Prepare workspace with a drop cloth, old newspapers, or cardboard.

4Remove all hardware.

5Tape over glass and mirrors when possible.

6Fill nail holes with water base filler.

7Wet the wood using a water spray bottle to raise the grain.

8Allow the dampened wood to dry 30 minutes before the final sanding.

9Use 180 grit paper to lightly sand to remove any shipping marks or skin oils from furniture piece.

10Dust with an oil-free static cloth or vacuum.

11Stir the contents of the paint can.

12Apply a wet uniform coat of paint using a foam brush or paint pad to one section at a time.

13Allow the first color to dry for 2 hours.

Warnings
- Never use ammonia-based products on water base finishes.⧼thumbs_response⧽
- Never use steel wool at any point in the finishing. Steel particles, if left behind, will rust after the topcoat is applied.⧼thumbs_response⧽
- Do not use tack cloths that contain linseed oil because they will contaminate the finish.⧼thumbs_response⧽
- High humidity can cause the stain and paint to take longer to dry.⧼thumbs_response⧽
- Cleaners that contain silicon or vegetable oils are not recommended because they leave a dull residue on the finish.⧼thumbs_response⧽
