Have you ever been out dancing and spotted a guy you’re into from across the room? If you want to get his attention or even dance with him, showing off some fun and flirty moves makes it harder for him to look away. Don’t worry if you don’t think you can dance because there are a lot of easy things you can try. We’ll start with a list of moves you can whip out next time you’re on the dance floor and move on to how you can act extra flirty so he’s bound to notice you!
Steps
Swing your hips in a figure-8.
-
This simple move draws his attention to your curves or toned tummy. This is one of the easiest dances you can do, but he still might be impressed by the way you move. Shift your weight onto your right leg and push your right hip forward. On the next beat, move your left hip forward and let your right side fall back. Just keep repeating these 2 moves along to the rhythm to get his attention.[1] X Research source
- You can do anything with your arms during this move. You could keep your hands on your hips to draw more attention to the motion, or you could swing them back and forth up by your chest.
Practice your two-step.
-
Step and sway with this foundational move so he sees you have rhythm. Always follow the beat of the song when you two-step, or else you may look a little uncoordinated. Step out to the side with your right foot and plant it on the ground. Then, step with your left foot so it’s next to your right. After that, take a wide step out to the left side to repeat the dance in the other direction.[2] X Research source
- Try going a little faster by stepping down twice with one foot before bringing your feet together. For example, you’d step out with your right foot, lift it off the ground slightly, then firmly plant it on the floor the next beat.
- You can also do the 4-corner two-step. Instead of stepping to the side, step forward with both feet and keep them shoulder-width apart. Then, step backward.
- A lot of other dance moves build off of the two-step, so it’s great to learn if you want to work up to more advanced techniques.
Try some body rolls.
-
He’ll notice your body from head to toe as you flow to the beat. Start by planting one foot on the floor a few feet in front of the other so you have good balance. Tilt your head so your chin points up. Hinge at the hips so you lean back and push your chest up toward the sky. With your hips forward, push your hips back to shift your weight onto your back heel to finish your body roll.[3] X Research source
- It might be easier for you to get the motion down if you press down on the ground with your front foot and push the rest of your body away.
- It’ll take a little practice to make your body rolls look smooth, so don’t get discouraged if you don’t flow very well right at the start.
Twerk your booty.
-
He’s bound to stop and stare once you start shaking your booty. If you really want to get the guy’s attention, try turning your back to him before twerking. If you want an easy variation, keep your weight on the balls of your feet and lift your heels off the ground. Quickly twist your body and feet to the right side and immediately switch back to the left side. Keep going back and forth to the beat to get your booty moving.[4] X Research source
- For a little more advanced technique, stand with your feet wider than your shoulders. Push your chest forward and arch your back so your booty sticks out. Start to bend your knees and bring your chest and booty back in toward the center of your body. Once your knees are bent to 90 degrees, pop your chest and booty back out.[5] X Research source
- Stay loose while you’re twerking so you don’t look too tense.
Shimmy to the Dougie.
-
Show off your coordination with this fun and advanced technique. He’s sure to be impressed by the way you move your body to the rhythm. Start with a basic two-step from side to side along with the rhythm. When you step to the left side, take your right arm and pretend you’re swinging a heavy backpack over your shoulder to rock your body to the side. When you step to the right, use your left arm instead.[6] X Research source
- Keep your hips and shoulders loose so you look really fluid while you’re dancing.
- Try to run your fingers through your hair whenever you bring your arms forward for an even sexier look.
Shake your body to the Biz Markie.
-
Groove with your whole body to show you know how to let loose. To the beat of the music, make a small hop to the right side and lean into it slightly. As soon as you land, bring your left arm up and swing it out in front of you. Once you reach fully out, snap your fingers. On the next beat, jump to the left side and swing your right arm instead.[7] X Research source
- Feel free to do whatever you want with your arms. Make the dance your own by putting a little bit of your personality into it.
Keep your body loose.
-
Relax if you feel tense so you don’t look as stiff. Bend your knees a little bit and bounce along the music to move around a little bit. Bob your head to the beat and shake out your arms to loosen them up. Listen to the music and just sway back and forth with the tempo so it doesn’t seem as awkward.[8] X Research source
- Connect with the music and stay in the moment. That will help you stay relaxed so you'll look more natural while you're dancing.[9]

Flip your hair.
-
Playing with your hair is a classic way to flirt with a guy. When you’re eyeing the guy from across the dance floor, tilt your head back briefly and run your fingers through your hair. Slowly and playfully run your hand down the side of your face and neck before meeting his gaze again so he doesn’t question that you’re into him.[10] X Research source
- Try flipping your hair as you’re doing your dance moves. For example, flip your hair to the beat when you pop your hips out during a figure-8 or two-step.
Look him in the eyes.
-
Match his gaze so you can form a connection. While you’re out on the floor, take a peek at the guy to see if he’s checking you out. If he looks in your direction, stare back into his eyes and smile. It might feel a little uncomfortable holding his eye contact at first, but it shows that you’re enjoying yourself and want him to know it.[11] X Research source
- Keep dancing while you’re staring at the guy. Knowing that he’s the focus of your attention will make him more interested in you.
Wink.
-
A quick wink shows him that you want to have a good time. Catch the guy’s gaze and start with a little unbroken eye contact so he knows you’re interested. If you want to be more friendly and flirty, wink really fast and smile before turning away from him. To really make him chase after you, roll your shoulder toward him and wink slowly.[12] X Research source
Run your hands over your body.
-
This sexy trick makes him wish he was the one touching you. Any time you want to turn up the heat in your dance routine, put your hands flat on your thighs and move them down your legs. Bend down and stick out your booty and you reach down towards your feet. As you stand back up, run your hands back up to your hips.[13] X Research source
- You can also do this to show off your booty. Start with your hands on the side of your hips and run your fingers down the backs of your legs. When you stand back up, move your hands up and over your bum to draw his attention there.
- Try licking your lips as you’re dancing too since it could be a big turn on for him.[14] X Research source
Brush up against him.
-
A little physical contact lets him know you want to get closer. If you’re near the guy you’re trying to impress, get a little closer to him. Casually brush your arm against his as you’re dancing or bump him lightly with your hips so he gets that you’re trying to get his attention.[15] X Research source
- If the guy pulls away from you repeatedly, he might not feel comfortable with you touching him. Respect his space so you don’t upset him even more.
Copy his moves.
-
Mirroring the guy shows him that you’re interested in him. When the guy you’re chasing gets on the dance floor, pay attention to how he’s moving his body. Try to match his rhythm and moves so you’re doing the same thing. If he notices that you’re copying how he moves, he’ll realize you want to dance with him.[16] X Research source
- This works really well if you’re dancing close to each other since it might be hard to notice from across the room.
Lead him onto the dance floor.
-
Make it clear you want to dance with him by taking the initiative. If you feel like you really need to dance with this guy, don’t wait around for him to make the first move. Go up to him and offer him your hand. If he takes it, gently pull him to a different part of the dance floor so he gets the idea. You may just impress him by acting so confident.[17] X Research source
- This also works great to break the touch barrier and make some more physical contact with him.
Warnings
- If the guy is physically turning away from you or doesn’t seem to notice you, he may not be interested. Don’t get discouraged though since there are a lot of other guys you can try to impress.[19] X Research source⧼thumbs_response⧽
