This quick recipe for spring rolls will show you how to make this authentic Asian appetizer at home. You'll no longer have to worry about them getting soggy while being delivered!
Serves 4 to 6
Ingredients
- 10 spring roll wrappers
- 1/2 red pepper (thinly sliced)
- 1 carrot (grated)
- 6 bamboo shoots (thinly sliced)
- Some bean sprouts
- 1/4 white cabbage (shredded)
- Some rice noodles (soaked in water)
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper
- 2 1/8 pints (1 liter) vegetable oil
- 1 egg (beaten)
Steps
-
1Cook the vegetables. Heat the wok with some vegetable oil. Add in the carrots, red pepper, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, and cabbage. Cook everything together until they have slightly softened.
-
2Add the wet ingredients. Add the noodles, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, salt, and pepper. Mix well and remove from the heat. Place everything in a bowl to cool.Advertisement

3Make the spring rolls. Place the spring roll wrapper in front of you, with one corner at the bottom so that it resembles a diamond. Brush the four edges of the wrapper with the beaten egg. Next, add the filling in the bottom part of the wrapper in a thin log shape, not touching the edges. Leave the bottom few centimetres clear.
-
4Lift the wrapper over the top and tuck it in under the filling. Fold over the left side, and then the right side and roll it up to form a tube. Brush a little more egg along the top part and seal the roll.
-
5Repeat until all the rolls are finished.
-
6Fry the egg rolls. Place a pan with oil over a medium heat. Wait until the oil is hot and then deep fry the egg rolls until they are lightly brown. Drain them on paper towels.
-
7Serve. Serve the finished egg rolls with a side of sweet & sour sauce or other favorite dips.

QuestionCan you make low sodium spring rolls?Helpful_BotCommunity AnswerYes, you can adjust the amount of sodium in the filling of the spring rolls to match your health needs/tastes. Lowering/removing the amount of salt will make the rolls a bit healthier, but you may need more spices to compensate for the taste. You can also reduce your sodium intake by not having soy sauce (which has a high sodium content), or other sodium-laden dishes alongside the rolls.
