This article will show you how to make an origami square base which is used to make the traditional crane, flower, fish and many more.

Steps

  1. 1
Valley fold in half both ways, and unfold. Fold the square into a rectangle and unfold. Then fold the square into a rectangle the other way.
  2. 2
Mountain fold (fold Behind) in half diagonally both ways, and unfold. (Fold the square into a triangle.)

How do I do it? When I put the corners together, it forms out as a triangle.

It's likely one of two things you could be doing wrong: 1. You're pulling the wrong flap in. I've done origami for a while now, and my recommendation when doing this is to try to pull in different flaps to the center. Or 2. You could be forming a different kind of base. The triangle base is something you can use to make things like origami butterflies, and to make this base you have to make sort of vampire-teeth inside.
