Regents Exams are state wide exams given in New York State. They are offered in a variety of subjects and are usually administered in June, August, and January. Regents cover a lot of material, so they can be hard to study for.
Steps
-
1Organize your notes from the class. For example, if you are taking a Regents in Biology, find your biology notebook. Clean it out; remove work from other classes, doodles, and other, unimportant things.
-
2Find all of your old tests and quizzes in that subject. Include answer keys or Scantron sheets. Place these in a folder or a separate section of your binder.Advertisement
-
3Go to your local book store for Regents review books. The company Barron's makes them in almost every subject. They are about $15 each, so talk to an older friend or family member who might already have a book in the subject you are looking for.
-
4Study a little bit at a time. The first things you study should be the things you learned in the beginning of school, since that's what you have most likely forgotten.
-
5Know what not to study. You should not bother studying topics you know, as it’ll be more beneficial to you to review things you feel as though you need more practice with. If you still really want to review the things you really know, just a quick brush through them will likely suffice.
-
6Spend less time in topics that have reference tables, such as earth science and chemistry. However, make sure you know how to read every single thing on the reference tables, as well as where to find things. Many of your answers on the regents will come right off the tables.
-
7Reread your notes before you go to bed each night, and if you can, the morning of the test, to keep everything fresh in your mind. If you have a lot of notes, simply read through your notes on one topic. The day of the test, you can read over your notes on something you still feel you’re not 100 percent good with,
-
8Get extra help with your teacher often in the weeks leading up to the test. Many teachers may offer an after school Regents review class, so take advantage of this if it’s something your teacher is offering.
