The 2023 Thatta accident was a road accident that occurred on 25 April 2023 in Thatta as a result nine friends who lost their lives when they were returning from Keenjhar Lake collided with a truck on the National Highway, killing all nine individuals aged between 20 and 40 years. Background

Nine individuals who had traveled from Karachi were in the van when a truck collided with it. At about 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday 25 April, the incident occurred. Mohammed Rais, the truck driver, was detained, and an FIR was filed in response to the grieving family members' complaint.[2][3]

The victims' coffins were brought to the Edhi Home in Sohrab Goth and then taken to their residences in Qadhafi Town for burial. The deceased was laid to rest in the Landhi graveyard. The relatives of the deceased said they were residents of the same locality and had gone for a picnic when the tragedy occurred on their way back to Karachi.[4][5]

The funeral prayers were held at a local ground in Qadhafi Town, Malir, and were attended by lawmakers, civil society organizations, and relatives.

Reactions

For the relatives, friends, and the larger community of the victims, the tragedy was a source of grief and sorrow. Kamran Tessori, the governor of Sindh, expressed his sorrow and requested that Commissioner Hyderabad write a thorough report on what happened. Additionally, Governor Tessori gave the authorities instructions to make sure that the injured accident victims had access to all essential medical services.[4]
