  • 20 February – A Rescue mission begins after a number of foreign citizens and local guides are kidnapped in a remote region of the country.[1]
  • 22 February – Kidnappers release a woman, whilst negotiations involving an Australian professor, and two others are still underway.[2]
  • 3 April – 2023 Papua New Guinea earthquake: A 7.1 magnitude earthquake strikes East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea, killing eight people, injuring several others, and causing damage.[3]
