Erin McDermott

Erin McDermott is a sports administrator who currently serves as 8th John D. Nichols '53 Family Director of Athletics of Harvard Crimson. She is the first female in history[1] to head athletics at Harvard University.[2] She most recently served as Director of Athletics & Recreation of Chicago Maroons in University of Chicago.

Early life and education

Erin was born in Westminster, Massachusetts to Tom McDermott of Lunenburg, Massachusetts and Kathleen McDermott of Fitchburg, Massachusetts.[3] She attended Oakmont Regional High School.[4]

Erin earned Bachelor of Business Administration from Frank G. Zarb School of Business at Hofstra University. She later earned Master of Science in Sports Management from Isenberg School of Management at University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Career

McDermott served as Deputy Athletics Director at Princeton University and also assistant director at Columbia University.

Harvard Crimson

Erin replaced Robert L. Scalise, who has held the position since 2001 and became the first woman to hold this position.[2]

Honors and awards

McDermott was named one of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Athletic Directors of the Year in 2019.[1]
