Katha Ankahee

Katha Ankahee (transl.  A Story Untold) is an Indian television drama series.[2] Produced by Sunjoy Waddhwa under the banner of Sphere Origins,[3] it is the official Hindi remake of Turkish series One Thousand and One Nights, which is inspired from Arabian Nights''.[4] It stars Aditi Sharma and Adnan Khan in lead roles[5][6] and premiered on 5 December 2022 on Sony Entertainment Television. It streams digitally on SonyLIV.[7]

Katha Singh is a single mother, whose son Aarav is ailing from blood cancer. Viaan Raghuvanshi heads a successful architectural firm but suffers from the trauma of his father leaving his mother for another woman. To him, every woman is a gold digger. With no support from her in-laws, Katha turns to her boss, Viaan, who agrees to help on the condition of spending a night with her in lieu of money. In desperation, Katha agrees. Aarav is saved but Katha develops a grudge against Viaan. Soon, Viaan finds out the reason behind Katha's need of money and is guilt ridden.

Katha's father-in-law Kailash, realises his mistakes and ammends his relationship with her, much to the displeasure of Reet, his other daughter-in-law. Viaan and Aarav, unaware of their real identities, form a friendship. Reet poisons Teji, Viaan's mother, against Katha. Katha and Viaan, start developing feelings for eachother. While Viaan expresses them, Katha is in denial due to her love for her dead husband. Katha finds out about Aarav and Viaan's friendship and is distressed.

Vanya, a new recruit at EarthCon, turns out to be the daughter of Seema Datta, the woman for whom Viraj left Teji and Viaan.

Production

Casting

Initially, Mohit Malik was in talks to play male lead "Viaan", but couldn't join due to his prior commitments.[11]

Gashmeer Mahajani was also approached to play the male lead, but he refused.[12] He revealed that he regretted rejecting the role.[13]

Aditi Sharma as Katha, and Adnan Khan as Viaan were signed as the lead.[14][15]

Samar Vermani and Sheen Dass was cast as the other lead.[16]

In November 2022, it was confirmed Vishal Gandhi had a cameo appearance in the show.[17]

Development

The series was announced by Sphere Origins for Sony Entertainment Television in October 2022.[18] It is the remake of Kanal D's popular Turkish soap opera Binbir Gece.[19]

The series marks comeback for Adnan Khan and Aditi Sharma into fiction after COVID-19 pandemic and their first collaboration.[20][21]

Filming

The series is set in Mumbai, shooting began in November 2022 and mainly shot at the Film City, Mumbai.[22][23]

Release

The teaser of the series was released on 14 October 2022.[24] It replaced Yashomati Maiyaa Ke Nandlala from 5 December 2022.[25]

Reception

Critical reception

Times Of India commented on Sharma and Khan for "seamlessly fit[ting] into their parts", and particularly noted the dialogue, the costuming and "[e]ven the Mumbai apartments" in which the production is filmed, but nonetheless faulted the program as "too slow with very few cheerful moments".[26]
