It was officially created in 1948, but restarted working as an independent agency in 1999.[3] After Kosovo's declaration of independence in 2008, the ACK organized Kosovo's first population census in 2011. It is supported by international organizations and statistic agencies, like the OSCE, United Nations, etc. As of 2011, the bureau works within the Kosovo Prime Ministry framework.[4]

Notes
- The political status of Kosovo is disputed. Having unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in 2008, Kosovo is formally recognised as a sovereign state by 101 UN member states (with another 13 states recognising it at some point but then withdrawing their recognition) and 92 states not recognizing it, while Serbia continues to claim it as a part of its own territory.
