Lego Dreamzzz

Lego Dreamzzz (stylized as LEGO DREAMZzz) is a Lego theme that takes young builders on a journey from the waking world into an imaginative fantasy realm. It is licensed from The Lego Group and was first introduced in 2023. The toy line is also accompanied by an animated television series that is scheduled for release on YouTube, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Sky and ITVX on 15 May 2023 in the United Kingdom.[1][2]

Overview

The product line focuses on Mateo, Izzie, Cooper, Logan and Zoey enter the Dream World and battle against The Nightmare King and The Grimspawn who wants to corrupt all of the dream worlds and every dream creature contained within them.[3][4]

Development

Lego Dreamzzz theme was developed by The Lego Group in 2019.[5] Cerim Manovi, creative director for the IP discussed the concept of the Lego Dreamzzz theme and explained, “Lego Dreamzzz is our very first concept that celebrates the wondrous world of dreaming and explores what happens when dreams become real, ordinary kids become extraordinary and creativity is a superpower,” and continued, “We want children to feel empowered to bring their wildest dreams to life and revel in the true force of their creative imaginations while dreaming – and this is just the beginning.”[6][7]

The concept of the Lego Dreamzzz theme was inspired by five previous big bang themes (Hidden Side, Nexo Knights, Vidiyo, Ninjago and Elves).[8]

Lego Dreamzzz theme aims to help children through difficult times. Cerim Manovi discussed Lego Dreamzzz theme will give children the tools to deal with ‘bad things in our lives’ and explained, "I feel we were doing it in a very healthy and safe way,” and continued, “We are [going to] encounter bad things in our lives and there’s no reason not to talk about it. So let’s talk about it in this weird, metaphorical way that hopefully helps to equip them for when they have to deal with it at some point.” Cerim Manovi also discussed how he wanted the series to ‘inspire conversation’ between the children who watch the series and their parents and explained, “It’s something where you learn to deal with your dreams and nightmares,” and continued, “Because having seen these characters deal successfully with their nightmares, in this fantasy setting, might actually equip [kids] to be like, ‘Okay, now I’m less afraid of it. Maybe I can face it head on’.”[9][10]

Launch

Lego Dreamzzz theme will be launched on 1 August 2023. As part of the marketing campaign, The Lego Group released the eleven sets based on Lego Dreamzzz Trials of the Dream Chasers TV series. Each set featured different dream creatures, buildings and vehicles. Minifigures including Mateo, Izzie, Cooper, Logan and Zoey were released as well. The sets were designed primarily for children with an age rating of 7+ or above.[11][12]

Dream Chasers
  • Mateo: A talented artist and he has a sidekick named Z-Blob in the dream world.[13][14] Voiced by Marcos Cardenas.[15]
  • Izzie: A comedian and Mateo's younger sister.[13][14] Voiced by Larissa Dias.[16]
  • Zoey: A new student of Francine Wooley Middle School, musician and Mrs. Castillo's neighbour.[13][14] Voiced by Sarah Jeffery.[17]
  • Cooper: Mateo and Izzie and Logan's best friend.[13][14] Voiced by Mike Taylor.[18]
  • Logan: An athlete and gamer.[13][14] Voiced by Vincent Tong.[19]

Dream creatures
  • Z-Blob: Mateo's goo-based can transform into warriors and vehicles in the dream world.[13][14]
  • Albert: Mr. Oz's type-A, engineering focused side manifests as a space-faring chimpanzee in the dream world.[13][14] Voiced by Clay St. Thomas.[22]
  • Bunchu: Izzie's plushie bunny can transform into a ferocious beat in the dream world.[13][14]
  • Zian: Zoey's giant cat-owl hybrid in the dream world.[13][14]

Villains
  • The Nightmare King: The main antagonist of the series, the Nightmare King is the evil ruler of the Grim Realm who wants to corrupt all of the dream worlds and every dream creature contained within them.[13][14] Voiced by Brian Drummond.
  • The Grimspawn: Nightmare King's army.[13][14]
  • Night Hunter: Nightmare King's second-in-command and armed with Shadow Bolt arrows.[13][14] Voiced by Alessandro Juliani.[23]

Construction sets

Trials of the Dream Chasers sets

In 2023, eleven sets were be released on 1 August 2023 and were based on the TV series titled Lego Dreamzzz: Trials of the Dream Chasers. A total of eleven sets including the Crocodile Car, Stable of Dream Creatures, Mr. Oz's Spacebus, Fantastical Tree House and Nightmare Shark Ship.[24][25][26][27] Each of the sets included a 2-in-1 ‘guided creativity’ experience and it's similar to Lego Creator 3-in-1 sets. The instructions split into two paths that allows young builders to choose two different ways to build their own models. Cerim Manovi described as ‘choose your adventure moment’ andstated, “What we want is [for] the kids to see they’re not just supposed to build the perfect model as it is on the box. They’re actually also okay to create something on their own… It’s just a simple tool to take away the fear of the blank canvas.”[28] In addition, a promotional polybag set namely Z-Blob and Bunchu Spider Escape will be released as well.[29]

Lego Dreamzzz: Trials of the Dream Chasers is a TV series in Lego animation, based on Lego theme of Lego Dreamzzz, produced by Pure Imagination Studios. The series premiered on YouTube, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Sky and ITVX on 15 May 2023 in the United Kingdom. Its first season, consisting of ten episodes.[30][31][32][33] [34][35][36]
