From 2013 to 2017, he served as general counsel to Governor Jay Inslee.[2]

Survivor
The Australian Outback
In 2001, Brown was cast on the second season of Survivor, Survivor: The Australian Outback.[9]
Brown was initially placed on the Kucha tribe alongside Rodger Bingham, Alicia Calaway, Debb Eaton, Elisabeth Filarski, Kimmi Kappenberg, Michael Skupin, and Jeff Varner. Brown initially got off on the wrong foot with his tribemates as he was in charge of navigating the way to their camp but failed to, which had him in danger of being voted out first after Kucha lost the first immunity challenge, but he was spared as Eaton was voted out for being a physical liability. While Kucha went on an immunity streak, Brown played the game under the radar in the premerge but did annoy Varner and Calaway due to his lack of work ethic. After winning three immunity challenges, Kucha lost the fifth where Kappenberg was voted out, with Skupin being medically evacuated two days later.
Brown made the merge with both tribes having 5 members, and each one wanting to eliminate a member of the other. The former Kucha targeted Colby Donaldson with the former Ogakor targeting Varner. By this point in the show, whoever had the most previous voted cast against them would be eliminated in a tie, which eliminated Varner as he had 2 and Donaldson only had 1. With Kucha now down in numbers, Calaway was voted out at the following tribal council due to being seen as a physical threat. Brown won the final 8 immunity challenge, saving himself before the Ogakor alliance flipped and voted out Jerri Manthey as most of them didn't get along with her, but the Ogakor alliance would vote Brown out next, continuing their domination. Brown received seventh place and was the third member of the jury.
At the final tribal council, Brown voted for Donaldson to win the game, who went on to lose to Tina Wesson.
