Reflection on the Ashura movement

The Reflection on the Ashura movement (Persian: تأملی در نهضت عاشورا) is a Persian book and a research work about the Islamic event Ashura, by the Iranian author, Rasul Jafarian. In this book, after introducing the oldest and most important historical texts related to the history of Ashura, author has examined how the origin, consequences, falsifications and rituals of the Ashura movement were formed.[9][10]

Structure and content

First edition

In the first edition of the book Reflection on the Ashura movement which was published in 2001, the author Rasul Jafarian has compiled it in an introduction and twelve topics which are:[11][12]

Last edition

In 2020, new edition of the book Reflection on the Ashura movement was published with corrections and additions in 719 pages.[13][14] This new edition contains an introduction and twenty-four topics which are:[8][15]

Jafarian writes in part of the book's introduction:[16][17][18][19]

"It is very easy also forbidden to talk about Imam Hussein (AS) and what happened to him, his family and companions in Karbala. Because on the one hand, we have a sea of information and news that we can use; On the other hand, intermixture of true and false, real and fictional news in the historical narrative of Karbala has become so high that it is very difficult to write and speak.

Indeed, is it possible to obtain the greatness of Hussein (AS) and the greatness of his status and position based on these narrations and news? This question is difficult to answer. The truth is that every time man thinks about it and says and writes something, he feels that he has been able to tell the truth about that eternal epic of history."
