History

Their collaboration started in Carrefour, a suburb of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, where they are both raised. Dener is originally from Saint Louis du Sud and Reginald from Port-au-Prince At very young age in Carrefour , Dener as a young guitar player and Reginald as an upcoming singer knew that their artistic instinct matched and occasionally met for jam sessions.

Dener and Réginald have officially communicated about their band for the first time publicly on December 5, 2018 via a live chat on Facebook, when the two friends were going to confirm for the general public that they had really decided to set up this project together but they started discussing about forming a group since 2016.

In late March 2019 , the group released a press note introducing the band to the general public. On July 3rd 2020, Zafem performed a live virtual concert At Q studios LIC in Queens .

Once again, it was through social networks that the members of the group communicate with the public. Following the release for their first video-clipped single "Savalou" in October 2019, Zafem announced a new single which would be titled "A la de ka" on November 25,2021 , The release of this second opus was followed by a media tour in Haiti and South Florida.

Zafem released their long-awaited first album ,las , on May 5, 2023 and announced their first live concert for July 8,2023 at Melrose Ballroom in New-york.The reception of the public of this new album was euphoric .An avalanche of recognition and satisfaction followed by the a worldwide audience. For the second week of May 2023 , the album topped streaming charts(All platforms together ) in Argentina , Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Brazil , Chile , Canada , France and the USA according to the website songstats.com. The album charted number 5th of US albums and number 1 in US latino albums on itunes , just over Karol G's Mañana Será Bonito.

Musical style

Although it is a compas group , the two musicians integrated other trends into their production.Zafem already has a flourishing musical field thanks to the previous experiences of its two founders. The group has its own style, new, with particularities that no other group of its generation of compas tendencies offers , a blend of Kassav'- influenced Zouk, popular haitian rhythms, Afro-Caribbean music and Worldbeat.

With these particularities, Zafem has brought poetry back into the creative field of compas. At their June 3rd ,2020 virtual concert , they brought the haitian poet André Fouad on the stage to instigate another color to the show. They took the opportunity to pay tribute to Georges Castera, Farah-Martine Lhérisson , Toto Bissainthe ,Martha Jean-Claude and so on. Without forgetting, the drum show which was another remarkable moment in the concert.
