It went to number 1 in Canada and New Zealand, number 2 in Belgium, number 3 in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, number 4 in Australia and the United States and number 7 in Ireland. It went to be covered by Soul Asylum and Max-A-Million where their version went to number 4 in New Zealand and number 5 in Australia.
