History

Americus was planned out in Fall 1857.[8] It was named after Amerigo Vespucci.[9]

Americus was a station and shipping point on the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad.[10]

Geography

Americus is at 38°30′23″N 96°15′35″W (38.506448, -96.259598).[11] The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 1.13 square miles (2.93 km2). Of that, 1.12 square miles (2.90 km2) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water.[12]
