History

Bison was platted in 1888 by the railroad.[7][8] It was named after the American bison, which once ate there.[8]

Bison was a station on the Missouri Pacific Railroad.[9]

The first post office in Bison was created in May 1888.[10]

Geography

Bison is at 38°31′15″N 99°11′51″W (38.520718, -99.197528).[11] The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.26 square miles (0.67 km2). All of it is land.[1]

Weather

Bison has hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. The Köppen Climate Classification system says that Bison has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps.[12]

The 2010 census says that there were 255 people, 104 households, and 72 families living in Bison.[2]

Education

Bison is part of USD 403 Otis-Bison. The Otis-Bison High School mascot is Cougars.[13]
