Merced, California

Merced is a city in Merced County, California, United States. As of 2014, 81,743 people lived there. Merced is the county seat of Merced County in the San Joaquin Valley of California.[5] Merced has the first research university built in the 21st century, University of California, Merced. UC Merced is the newest school in the University of California system.[6]

Government

Merced runs off of the Council-Manager form of government. Merced's mayor is Stan Thurston. Merced is located in California's 12th State Senate district. Merced's state senator is Anthony Cannella.[7] Merced is also located in the California's 21st State Assembly District. Merced's assemblyman is Adam Grey.[8] Merced is represented in the United States House of Representatives by Jim Costa.[9]
