Paleontology
In this city there are outcrops with fossils. Sauropodomorph dinosaur Buriolestes and dinosauromorph Ixalerpeton were found in the Carnian (Late Triassic) deposits. The type species Ixalerpeton polesinensis was named after São João do Polêsine in 2016.[2]
