- Taxonomic notes: This taxon is considered by some to be a synonym of Acer tschonoskii subsp. koreanum A.E.Murray in Maples of the World. In 2003, the species was described as distinct from Acer tschonoskii (Chang & Kim 2003). It is treated as distinct in Flora of China (2008) and in the Woody Plants of Korea which this assessment follows. Relationships within the Acer tschonoskii complex remain debated and require further research.
