Don’t have the ideal loaf pan to bake a fresh loaf of bread? Instead of running out to the store to purchase an expensive pan, use a clean, empty coffee can to not only bake but allow the bread to rise and proof.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 ¼ tsp. active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp. white sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

Steps

  1. 1
    Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. 2
Clean and prepare coffee can. Only use a can that is free or damage and/or rust. Clean with hot soapy water and rinse well. Dry with a clean cloth and make sure lid is also clean and dry.
    • Spray the inside of the can with non-stick butter spray or coat with oil or margarine.

  3. 3
Combine warm water, yeast, sugar, salt and olive oil in a large bowl. Mix well to fully integrate and combine ingredients.
  4. 4
Add 2 cups of the flour and knead dough. Make a soft ball until all the flour is completely integrated.
  5. 5
Add remaining ½ cup of flour to dough to create a soft, non-sticky dough. Sprinkle flour and knead slowly so you can determine when you’ve achieved the desired consistency.
  6. 6
Fill the coffee can with bread dough halfway. If you fill the can all the way with dough it will spill over as it rises.
  7. 7
Add can lid and let dough rise. The lid will provide an ideal environment for yeast to rise.
    • Lid will pop off once bread has fully risen.
  8. 8
Remove lid and bake bread inside the can. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. 9
Allow baked dough to rest and cool before releasing from can.
