-
3Choose how to receive the security code. Microsoft will give you the option to send a security code to an alternate email address or phone number that is associated with your account.
- Before Microsoft sends the security code, they may test you to ensure it’s really your phone number or email address. You’ll have to fill in the rest of the phone number or email address and then you can select Send code.
-
4Locate the security code on your trusted device or email. If you chose to send the security code to an email address, check your inbox for an email from Microsoft with the code. If you chose to send the security code to a phone number, you will receive a text message with the code.
-
5Type in the security code and click Next. Return to Microsoft’s “Recover Your Account” page and type the security code into the “Verify your identity” field. Once you are sure you’ve typed the code correctly, click “Next.”
-
6Create your new password. To reset the password on your Microsoft account, you will have to pick a new password. You will have to type your new password two separate times to confirm it.
- Make sure to choose a strong password. Longer passwords that include numbers, symbols, and capital letters offer you more protection.
-
7Log in to your Microsoft account. Once you have finished resetting your password, you will be able to log in to your Microsoft account with the new password.
