1882 Tennessee gubernatorial election
The 1882 Tennessee gubernatorial election was held on 7 November 1882 in order to elect the Governor of Tennessee. Incumbent Republican Governor Alvin Hawkins lost re-election against Democratic nominee and former member of the Tennessee House of Representatives William B. Bate.[1]

General election
On election day, 7 November 1882, incumbent Republican Governor Alvin Hawkins lost re-election by a margin of 26,909 votes against his Low Tax Democratic opponent William B. Bate, thereby losing Republican control over the office of Governor to the Democrats. Bate was sworn in as the 23rd Governor of Tennessee on 15 January 1883.[2]
