All statistics correct as of 10 May 2023.

Twenty-four teams will compete in the league – eighteen returning teams from the previous season, three teams relegated from the Premier League and three teams promoted from League One. As of 15 May 2023, fifteen of the eighteen returning teams have been determined, as they have earned sufficient points in the 2022–23 season to guarantee they will not be relegated but not performed well enough to reach the promotion play offs currently in progress. In addition, Southampton have been relegated from the Premier League and Plymouth Argyle and Ipswich Town have been promoted from League One.
