Teams
Twenty teams will compete in the league – the top seventeen teams from the previous season and the three teams promoted from the Championship. As of 14 May 2023, fourteen of the seventeen returning teams have been determined, as they have earned sufficient points to guarantee they will not be relegated.[1] The two promoted teams so far are Burnley and Sheffield United, who will return to the top flight after respective absences of one and two years. Luton Town, Middlesbrough and Coventry City are competing in the Championship play-offs to determine the third and final promoted team. They will replace Southampton, who will be relegated to the Championship after a top flight spell of eleven years.
