Summary
The Desire Grand Prix (DGP) is a virtual reality-based survival sports game overseen by an organization of the same name where players must protect the city from the threat of a mysterious enemy called Jyamato. Each participant is bound by the game's rules to continue playing the game until they die or are eliminated while the winner is rewarded with "the right to bring an ideal world to life". In other words, only the true heroes who win the competition can realize their desired reality.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]
Among the participants are Ace Ukiyo, a mysterious man and undefeated champion of the DGP who competes as Kamen Rider Geats, his rival Michinaga Azuma, a construction worker who competes as Kamen Rider Buffa, graduate student Keiwa Sakurai who competes as Kamen Rider Tycoon, and social media influencer Neon Kurama who competes as Kamen Rider Na-Go. As the group fight the Jyamato to survive and the monsters grow stronger, the truth about DGP and their creators is revealed.
The series is divided into arcs, each covering a different season of the DGP:
- Daybreak Arc (黎明編, Reimei-hen) (Episode 1): It introduces the main characters and ends with Ace winning and attaining his wish of "Becoming a Celebrity".
- Encounter Arc (邂逅編, Kaikō-hen) (Episodes 2–9): Keiwa and Neon join the DGP as Kamen Riders while Ace and Michinaga return from the previous season. Ace wins again, this time using his wish of "Having Girori and Tsumuri (two members of the DGP staff) as part of his family", to investigate further on the DGP and attempt to discover why he can't make his real wish come true, which is to reunite with his long lost mother Mitsume.
- Conspiracy Arc (謀略編, Bōryaku-hen) (Episode 10–16): Fearing that Ace could be a liability for the organization, Girori, revealed as the DGP's game master, brings DGP agent Win Hareruya to the game in order to remove him permanently from the competition while some of the Jymato gain the ability to transform into Jyamato Riders. But he ends up removed from his position for abusing his authority and indirectly causing the deaths of Win and Michinaga. In the occasion, it is revealed that the DGP is an inter-dimensional reality game show, and the season ends with no winners.
- Divergence Arc (乖離, Kairi-hen) (Episode 17–24): Chirami assumes the DGP as the new game master with Ace finding the format changed to a popularity context to place him at a disadvantage, learning he and the other Kamen Riders have supporters who aid them. Meanwhile, Michinaga's prolonged usage of the Zombie Buckle resurrects him and learns the Jyamato are evolving under their cultivation by mysterious gardener named Archimedel nourishing them with fallen players' ID Cores. Michinaga gradually becoming a human-Jyamato hybrid as he and a disqualified DGP player named Daichi Isuzu are recruited by Archimedel and the Jyamatos' supporter Beroba to throw a wrench into the DGP to seize the "Goddess of Creation", which is the source of the DGP's power. In the occasion, Ace discovers that the DGP supporters and staff are time-travelers from the future, who choose different locations from the past as venues for their games. The season also ends up without a winner, due to Beroba seizing control.
- Lamentation Arc (慟哭編, Dōkoku-hen) (Episode 25–32): Beroba, seeking full access to the Goddess of Creation, creates a new competition called the Jyamato Grand Prix (JGP) with the roles reversed: The Jyamato (including Michinaga who turned into a human-Jyamato hybrid) fighting the Riders to with the last one standing becoming the Jyamashin and create their ideal world. Ace is revealed have continuously reincarnated and participated in the DGP since 1 AD, while Neon learns that her father created her to replace his deceased daughter Akari. During the final round, Ace learns the truth that Mitsume was transformed into the Goddess of Creation by the DGP's owner Sueru, the power needed to grant wishes revealed to stem from her absorbing the lives and happiness of the games' causalities. The game ends with Michinaga's victory, attaining his longtime wish to obtain "The power to destroy all Kamen Riders".
- Yearning Arc (慕情編, Bojō-hen) (Episode 33-present): Having attained his wish, Michinaga begins hunting down all remaining Kamen Riders, including those from DGP staff, until Tsumuri revives Ace by awakening a similar power as Mitsume. But when Ace turns against the DGP instead for what they did to his mother, while Michinaga disposes Chirami, Sueru replaces the JGP with his own version of the Desire Royale, an elimination game that was founded by Colus, where Kamen Riders fight each other with the winner allowed to decide the DGP’s fate. Besides Ace and Michinaga, they are joined by Neon and Daichi. Keiwa also joins the Desire Royale after Kekera tricked his sister Sara into joining the game as part of his deal with Beroba to revive his ward. Win Hareruya, whom Girori killed at the end of "Conspiracy" DGP tournament was resurrected alongside Niram by Sueru, with an order to prepare to move DGP broadcasting to a different era.
