Plaksha University
Plaksha University is a not-for-profit private research university located in Mohali, Punjab, India.[2] It is set up by a group of over 60 business leaders and technology entrepreneurs with a mission to create a new model of higher education that combines academic excellence with industrial relevance. It is a corporate-funded technical university, which is being established under the Punjab State Private Universities Policy of 2010. It has received a Letter of Intent from the Government of Punjab.[3]

History
It was founded in 2019 by a group of industry leaders and entrepreneurs. The university is named after the Plaksha tree, which is considered sacred in Indian mythology and symbolizes knowledge and growth. The university's logo also features the tree, with its branches reaching outwards to represent its commitment to expanding knowledge and creating a positive impact.
Academics
Plaksha University offers undergraduate and graduate programs in engineering, computer science, data science, and entrepreneurship. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in theory and practice and equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in today's rapidly evolving industries.
The university began its Undergraduate program in September 2021 with a class of 95 students. The university aims to integrate engineering education and research with liberal arts, design, and entrepreneurship.[4] The Reimagining Higher Education Foundation, the sponsoring body of Plaksha, currently offers a one-year Tech Leaders Fellowship, a residential post-graduate program in collaboration with Purdue University[5] and UC Berkeley.[6]
Research
In addition to academic programs, Plaksha University has established several research centers focused on cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and sustainable energy. These centers bring together leading researchers and industry experts to collaborate on projects that address some of the most pressing challenges facing society today.
Entrepreneurship
Plaksha University places a strong emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation. The university has established a startup accelerator program, which provides students and alumni with the resources and support needed to turn their ideas into successful businesses. The program offers access to mentors, investors, and industry partners, as well as funding and office space.
There are two startup accelerator programs in the University, One funded by the university itself and the other by E-cell of Plaksha University.
Fees and Funding
Plaksha University offers a range of scholarships to support deserving students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and a commitment to creating a positive impact on society. These scholarships are designed to make education accessible to students from diverse backgrounds and to foster a culture of meritocracy and inclusivity.
The university offers the following scholarships:
- Merit Scholarships: Plaksha University offers merit scholarships to students who have performed exceptionally well in their previous academic endeavors. These scholarships are awarded based on academic achievements, leadership potential, and other criteria such as community service and extracurricular activities. These Merit scholarships range from 25% to 100% on tuition fees.
- Need-based Financial Aid: The university also offers need-based scholarships to students who require financial assistance to pursue their education. These scholarships are awarded based on the student's financial needs and academic merit. These Scholarships/Aids cover 25% to 100% of the program cost including the Hostel, Food, and Tuition fees.
- Corporate-Funded Scholarships: There are many corporate-funded scholarships also:
- Bharti Scholarship:[7] Bharti Scholarship is a highly prestigious scholarship awarded to exceptional students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to pursue full-time undergraduate studies at Plaksha University. Set up by the Bharti Foundation, the aim is to help the youth to realize their potential and pursue their dreams.
- Axis Bank Scholarship:[8] Axis Bank Scholarship aims to support deserving candidates from diverse socio-economic, gender, and geographical backgrounds, pursuing full-time undergraduate programs. Set up by Axis Bank, the scholarship seeks to enrich the talent pool that would be joining the workforce or going for higher education in the STEM domains.
- College Board India Scholars Program:[9] Top Performers in SAT who demonstrate significant financial need, defined as family income less than INR 8,00,000 per annum, are eligible to receive a full tuition scholarship for the entire duration of their program of study Plaksha. Students in India who score 1300 or above on the SAT® will be recognized as Top Performers by the College Board at the end of April on an annual basis.
- Ayyalasomayajula Lalitha Scholarship Fund:[10] The ‘Ayyalasomayajula Lalitha’ Scholarship Fund (“the Scholarship Fund”) seeks to provide financial aid to deserving women students from a less privileged background pursuing full-time postgraduate programs at Plaksha University. This scholarship fund is instituted and initially supported by the A.T.E. Chandra Foundation (ATECF).
To apply for these scholarships, students need to meet the eligibility criteria and submit an application form along with supporting documents such as academic transcripts, financial statements, and recommendation letters. The selection process for scholarships is rigorous and involves a review of the student's academic record, personal statement, and other relevant factors.
Plaksha University's scholarship programs are aimed at attracting and retaining top talent and creating a diverse and inclusive community of scholars and leaders. The university is committed to ensuring that financial constraints do not limit the potential of deserving students and that everyone has access to high-quality education and opportunities for growth and success.
Campus
The 50-acre campus is being built in Sector 101 A near the Chandigarh International Airport.[11]
