History

Abbyville was a station on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.[7] The town was named after Abby McLean, the first baby born there.[8]

The first post office in Abbyville was created in 1886. It was moved from Salt Creek.[9]

Geography

Abbyville is at 37°58′14″N 98°12′14″W (37.970619, -98.203764).[10] The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.19 square miles (0.49 km2). All of it is land.[11]

Weather

Abbyville has hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Abbyville has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps.[12]
