Mesquita is a municipality of Baixada Fluminense, in the Grande Rio region, state of Rio de Janeiro.

Mesquita is the newest municipality in the metropolitan area of Rio de Janeiro, having been dismembered from Nova Iguaçu in 1999. Just like Nilópolis, it is one of the main passages for people going from Nova Iguaçu to Rio de Janeiro. Mesquita is also crossed by the Japeri railway line, which connects the Central do Brasil station to the Japeri station. The stations of the Japeri line in Mesquita are Edson Passos, Mesquita (city center), and Presidente Juscelino.
