How to Find a Website's IP Address

This wikiHow teaches you how to find the IP address of a website. You can do this by using your computer's built-in "traceroute" function, or by downloading and using a free traceroute app for your iPhone or Android.

Method 1

On Windows

Open Start
. Click the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

Type command prompt into Start. Doing so searches for the Command Prompt app on your computer.

Command Prompt. It should be at the top of the Start window. Command Prompt will open.

Type in ping and type a space, then type in your website's address (including the "www." part) then add in, with a space -t.
- To search for Google's IP address, for example, you'd type ping google.com -t into Command Prompt.
- Make sure that you get the correct extension for the website (e.g., ".com" versus ".net").
- There must be a space between ping and the website's name and -t

Open Spotlight
. Click the magnifying glass-shaped icon in the top-right corner of the screen.

Open Network Utility. Double-click Network Utility near the top of the search results. Doing so will prompt the Network Utility window to open.^{[1]

Enter a website's address. In the text box near the top of the window, type in the address of the website for which you want to find the IP address.
- For example, to find Google's IP address, you'd type in google.com here.
- You don't need to provide the "https://" or "www." section of the website's address.

Click Trace. It's a blue button on the right side of the page.

Note the website's IP address. Next to the "traceroute to [website]" line of text, you'll see an IP address in parentheses; this is your website's IP address.
- For example, if you used Google as your website to trace, you'd see "traceroute to google.com (216.58.193.78)" here.

Download iNetTools from your iPhone's App Store. To do so:
- Open the
  App Store app.
- Tap Search
- Tap the search bar
- Type in inettools
- Tap Search
- Tap GET next to the "iNetTools" heading.
- Enter your password or Touch ID when prompted.

Open iNetTools. Tap OPEN when it appears in the App Store, or tap the iNetTools app icon.

Tap Trace Route. You'll find this option near the middle of the screen.

Tap the address bar. It's below the "Server" heading near the top of the screen.

Enter an address. Type in the address of the website for which you want to find the IP address (e.g., google.com for Google's website).
- You don't need to include the www. section of the address.

- Open your Android's

- Tap the search bar
- Type in pingtools
- Tap PingTools Network Utility
- Tap INSTALL
- Tap AGREE

Open PingTools Network Utility. Tap OPEN in the Google Play Store, or tap the PingTools app icon.

Tap ☰. It's in the upper-left corner of the screen. A pop-out menu will appear.

Tap Traceroute. This option is near the middle of the pop-out menu.

Enter an address. Tap the address bar at the top of the screen, then type in the address of a website for which you want to see the IP address (e.g., google.com for Google's website).

No, not accurately anyway. There may be ways to get an approximation, but it won't be 100% accurate. The reasoning here is that the IP address bounces off of a server. So for example, I'm in Santa Cruz, but the closest servers to me are all in San Jose. So if you pulled my IP using canyouseeme or one of those other tools, it will say San Jose, not Santa Cruz.
