Adhikari
Adhikari (Devanāgarī: अधिकारी, Sinhala: අදිකාරී, Bengali: অধিকারী) (also spelled Adhikary or Adhicary) is a surname originating in the Indian subcontinent. In India, Adhikari belong to Brahmin caste originated in Indian Subcontinent. The surname was given by the late rulers to the those who had the authority to teach. Adhikari is majorly found in West Bengal and is one of the common suranme among Bengalis. But in Nepal, Adhikari is believed to be in Khatri Clan. This variation is seen due to the migration of the people and the occupation they followed there. It is mainly found in Nepal, India, and Sri Lanka. It is found among several groups including Bengalis, Biharis, Sinhalese, Marathis, Odias,[2] Nepalese and Kumaonis. [3][4] Adhikari is literally translated as Officer.[1]
