Davao City Expressway

The Davao City Expressway is an expressway currently under feasibility study. It was proposed by President Rodrigo Duterte to mitigate the congestion on the Pan-Philippine Highway in Davao City.[1]

Project Description

Davao City Expressway Project, a 29.2 kilometer elevated expressway with 30 meter Right-of-Way (ROW) connecting the Asian Highway 26 (AH26), Davao City Coastal Road and the main roads in Davao City. The project alignment has a T-shaped arrangement and is divided into three phases. [2]

The Project is divided into three phases, with a "T"-shaped distribution. Phase 1 from Coastal Highway to Ma-a is an elevated viaduct along the whole alignment, including 2 recommended diamond interchanges and 5 bridges crossing Davao River, with large bridge span and complex construction process. Phase 2 from Panacan to Ma-a is also an elevated viaduct along the whole alignment, including hub interchanges and 2 recommended diamond interchanges. In Phase 3 from Ma-a to Dumoy, it is planned to set up a 260m-long tunnel, including 1 hub interchange, 1 deformable cloverleaf interchange and 1 simple diamond interchange. [3]

Project Impact and Objectives

  • To reduce the traffic decongestion in the vital parts of Davao City.
  • To improve the economic ability of the city, by making an expressway which will improve the travel time from the port to different parts of the city.
  • To increase the productivity of different business sectors in the city.[6]

  • Authority to Procure was approved on 20 January 2017.
  • Preparation of the Terms of Reference (TOR), Approved Budget for the Contract (ABC) and other bidding documents.[6]
