Nacimiento

Nació el 11 de octubre de 1875.

Estudios

Comienza sus estudios en el "Marlborough College", y los finaliza en el "King's College " en Cambridge donde se gradúa con M.A. y con Ph.D. en Ciencias. Fue miembro, en 1901, del King’s College, docente en 1902, y miembro honorario en 1932.

Actividades

De 1905 a 1907 fue maestro asistente en Botánica.
De 1907 a 1922 fue director asistente de los Reales Jardines Botanicos de Kew y los dirige a partir de 1922.
Es elegido miembro de la Royal Society en 1920 y de otras sociedades científicas.
