Notable changes include Cosima Towneley, the town’s mayor, losing her Cliviger seat after 16 years to Beki Hughes, of the Green Party. Labour kept a grasp of six seats, and gained two more (taking one from Burnley and Padiham Independent Party and one from Liberal Democrats). The Conservatives gained a vacant seat in Whittlefield with Ightenhill, previously held by Burnley and Padiham Independent Party, and gained a vacant seat in Hapton with Park, previously held by The Conservative Party until September 2022 when Peter Gill stepped down over 'behaviour of national leadership'.[2]
The Labour Party remains the largest group on the council with 21 seats, 2 short of overall control. It is expected that talks will take place to continue the coalition in place since 2021 between Labour and the Liberal Democrats.
